Even his four novels have been adapted into successful Bollywood flims. The New York Times called him the ‘the biggest selling English language novelist in India’s history’. USA, listed him as one of the world’s ‘100 most creative people in businesses. Bhagat is a motivational speaker & screen play writer. He did his high school from Daula Kuan, completed his Mechanical Engineering from IIT & completed his MBA from IIM Ahmadabad. After almost a decade Chetan quit his international investment banking career in 2009 to devote his entire time to writing and make change happen in the country. He lives in Mumbai with his wife, Anusha, an ex-classmate from IIM-A, and his twin boys, Shyam and Ishaan.

Review of Revolution 2020

R2020 by Chetan Bhagat (2011)

Chetan Bhagat go to Ganga tech college of Varanasi for a guest lecture. There he meets Gopal the very young owner of college. Gopal invite Chetan to drink. While they were drinking, Gopal tells that he is not highly educated but still he is a director of that college. Chetan shows interest to know more about him. Gopal feel sick because of over drinking, he has to shift to hospital, there he tells about his story.

Summary of R2020

It is a fiction & there is nothing concern with the word Revolution. Revolution 2020 is story of three childhood friends name Gopal, Raghav & Arti. The story is setup in the holy & oldest city Varanasi. Yes the city of temple. Gopal & Raghav are close friends they were classmates. They share the same bench in the class room. Arti becomes their friend after a little childish incident made by Gopal & Raghav. Gopal loves Arti from school days.

The story’s narrator is Gopal. Gopal concerns from middle-class-family background. While Raghav is well to do family & Arti comes from a kind of bureaucratic & political family background. Three of them have their own ambitions in life. Gopal wants to become a rich man, Raghav wants to change the world. Arti wants to become Air hostess.

After getting a good rank in JEE & AIEEE. Raghav get admission in a top college of Varanasi. While Gopal fails to get a good rank even get a college. His father forces him to repeat the year for JEE & AIEEE. He suggests Gopal to go the KOTA (Rajasthan) the place of coaching centers for preparation of JEE & AIEEE. Gopal don’t want to go Kota. He doesn’t want to leave Arti. Eventually he has to go. While other side of story Arti falls in love with Raghav.

What happens in that one year is the main part of story. When Gopal return from Kota. He already loss his love Arti & fail to get a good rank again in JEE & AIEEE. How Gopal chooses corruption as an aid to become rich man while Raghav tries to change the world with his revolutionary ideas is In the middle of this novel (R2020).

I don’t to tell you the whole story to ruin your suspense. But in last pages of the R2020,you yourself has to decide who is right & who is wrong. Except for a faint hint in the last chetan doesn’t judge whether Gopal is right or wrong.

My opinion 

Yes I am fan of Chetan Bhagat. But R2020 is completely bollywood type story. Even there are some swearing words starts from B & F. I would like to leave it on your imagination to find out the meaning of those words. I wonder why chetan Bhagat used such type of words in R2020.

Overall R2020 can be read. The few sentences are really good.

My rating to this novel is 7/10.
